On The Market
Originally conceived by Michael Bierut, The 100 Day project in the SVA Branding program tasks individuals to do one thing (and document it) every day for 100 consecutive days. For my project, I have decided to explore brand identities through the lens of dating.
Brand love today is fragile, personal, and influenced by many factors — factors like trust, shared values, attention, and understanding. In fact, our relationships with brands are increasingly resembling our relationships with humans. Given this notion, I became curious about this “love” between brands and people. With a growing emphasis on the importance of internal brand attributes, do we now fall for brands the way we fall for people?
With this question in mind, I’ve set out to create a dating profile for a different brand every day for 100 days, housed on Instagram. For each profile of my project, On The Market, I will select a dating app or site that I believe the brand would be on and distill everything I know and research about the brand into their profile. This project will allow for a larger exploration of what it could be like if brands were actually on the market, and if we’d be attracted to them in the same way or for the same reasons.
After all, any brand today is just a swipe away!
